Values
Seattle’s Progressive Preschool emphasizes the integration of progressive values into its curriculum and activities through monthly topics and service activities. Central to the program is an introduction to anti-bias in education. Subsequently, families are encouraged to work in pairs, and with the guidance of the instructor, plan one month’s topic/service theme. Prospective families for the 2010-2011 school year have expressed a desire to address the following topics:
- Sustainability and Stewardship
- Civil Rights: Race, Gender, Sexuality
- Alternative Family Structures – single parented families, kindercare arrangements, same-sex parented families
- Poverty: Hunger, Homelessness, Access to Health Care
Families are encouraged to initiate new topics!
