Registration FAQ

Do you have space available?

2019-2020 school year:

There is limited space available in the Sprouts B class (Updated August 2019)

Is this a drop-off preschool?

No. We operate under a cooperative model. Caregivers attend classes with the children and serve as assistant teachers. The amount of time you spend in class will depend on your child’s age and the class enrollment.

When does school start?

SPP’s school calendar provides the dates of instruction. We are in session from September through June, and follow the Seattle Public School K-5 calendar.

Is there an application deadline?

No. Our admission committee will consider all applicants interested in joining the school regardless of the date of application.

Can my child join mid-year?

We allow rolling admission (space dependent) into classes until January 1. After that time, we encourage families interested in joining our community to register for both the current and upcoming school years to ensure continuity for the child’s class cohort, family’s engagement with the community, and health of the co-op.

Do you allow age exceptions?

Age exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Typically, students start in the class that fits their age range, and the teachers consider the student’s readiness for advancement into the next class. The age exception is permitted only if it meets the needs of the student, family, teachers, and co-op community.

How soon after applying are we notified of a decision?

We will be in contact with applicants within one week of receipt of their completed application (form and application fee).

How soon after we are offered a spot do we need to reply?

To secure your child’s spot in the class, we must receive a response and your deposit from you within 1 week. After this time the class spot will be released and your family will need to re-apply for consideration.

Do you offer financial aid?

Yes. We offer generous financial aid packages. Please see our Financial Aid page for details.

Do you allow short-term enrollment?

No. For the health of our co-op, we do not allow short-term enrollment.

Is there a discount for siblings?

Yes. Families enrolling additional children receive a 10% discount for each child on tuition in the same priced or lower priced class.

Is the tuition deposit refundable if my family decides not to attend?

The tuition deposit is non-refundable.

Tell me more about co-op jobs. What is the commitment?

Every family is assigned an administrative co-op job. Our jobs coordinator works with the families to come up with a good fit in terms of interest, job roles and responsibilities. When you apply to our school, you provide us with information that helps guide these discussions. Administrative co-op jobs vary in amount of work/commitment as well as timing (some are heavy at the start of school, some are evenly distributed).

Each family also has an in-class assistant teacher responsibility. Caregivers attend each class with Samaras due to their age. Caregivers of Sprouts and Seedlings are assigned specific days to attend class. The number of days that Sprouts/Seedlings caregivers are assigned is dependent on class enrollment. For 2019-2020, we are hiring an assistant teacher for Sprouts/Seedlings, which will decrease the number of shifts for caregivers.

If I have more than one child attending, does our family have more than one co-op job?

No. One administrative co-op job is assigned per family. However, if you have more than one child in the SAME class, you will likely have additional in-class assistant teacher shifts.
